Restylane is a clear non-animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural substance called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that exists naturally in many organisms. It binds with water and is also important for the transport of nutrients, regulating water balance and giving volume and structure to the skin.

By boosting the skins supply of hyaluronic acid, Restylane restores and adds volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and giving a natural softer look.

The most common areas treated are:

• Nose to mouth lines (the nasolabial folds)

This is a highly popular and well known treatment that temporarily relaxes muscles to smooth wrinkles and prevent deeper lines forming. The injection temporarily prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscle and, as a result, the muscle relaxes. As the muscle relaxes, the skin smooths out.

Jaw/neck contouring (Nefertiti)

Nefertiti was an Egyptian queen, notorious for her sleekly defined neck and chiselled jawline. The Nefertiti neck lift is a technique where the depressor muscles of the lower face along the jawline and down the side of the neck are injected with Botox. When these muscles are treated it can provide a "lifting" effect in the neck and jaw area . This treatment can help the area appear smoother and more toned but should not be compared to the results of a surgical neck lift. This treatment is not always suitable for all clients which would be discussed at consultation.

There is no downtime, results can usually start to be seen from 3-5 days and will usually last 4-6 months.

Neostrata Prosystem is a highly effective, superficial peeling system used as a specific technique for skin renewal. Neostrata Prosystem utilises three different alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs): glycolic acid, citric acid and mandelic acid. AHAs are naturally occurring "fruit acids" found in fruits and other foods. Glycolic acid is found naturally in sugar cane, citric acid in citrus fruits, and mandelic acid in almonds.

Many common skin problems are associated with the excess build-up of dead skin cells that make the skin thick and dull and may cause clogged pores. AHA's help loosen and remove the dead surface layers of the skin, as well as provide deeper antiaging effects.

A high concentration of AHA is safely applied to the skin for a short period of time and then chemically neutralised to end the treatment. This procedure helps to remove the damaged layers of surface skin cells revealing fresh skin, stimulating cell turnover and encouraging anti ageing effects in the deeper skin layers. A series of peels can help the skin appear healthier, smoother, plumper, firmer, less oily and more even-toned with fewer acne blemishes.

AHA peels have the advantage of being non-toxic and are used for superficial peeling of the skin because they require little recovery time. Usually done in a series of controlled treatments, AHA peels are often comparable in their results to some deeper peels without the complications.

Usually a course of 4-6 treatments are recommended and products are provided to prep the skin 2 weeks prior to treatment.

Spider veins and thread veins are terms used to describe small, unsightly, superficial veins usually found in clusters on the legs.

Sclerotherapy is a procedure in which a fine needle is used to inject a small amount of solution directly into the thread vein. The solution displaces the blood within the vein, making it blanch or turn white, and prevents blood from re-entering the vein.

The thread vein will fade within two to eight weeks following treatment. Some areas may, however, require repeat treatment to achieve optimum results. An interval of 6-8 weeks is recommended between treatments and most patients will require between 2 and 4 treatments.

fortunately there are very few risks from sclerotherapy.The worst thing is usually the bruising afterwards – this can last for 2 or 3 months on average and can last longer. For this reason it is recommend that patients don't have sclerotherapy immediately before holidays for example. A lot of patients like to have sclerotherapy in the autumn or winter time so that when the summer comes their bruises have all faded.

A medicine called Fibro vein – its chemical name is Sodium Tetradecyl, is the commonest drug used in the UK for treatment of thread veins and is fully licenced for this use.

Sadly thread veins can continue to develop – you will continue to make thread veins throughout your life. However, they usually come back slowly, so most of patients will come back around every 18 months or so to keep on top of them.

CryoPen therapy is a medical procedure that involves the application of nitrous oxide gas ejected under high pressure on to the skin. The gas is very cold which helps to freeze and destroy any benign lesions.

During the application, the tip of the CryoPen reaches -89°C. The reason for this is to create a thermal shock at the region where the gas is pointed by causing a rapid drop in temperatures.
